Keep It Coming! + Ready Seven

This project consists of two sculptures we did for the Sand Lake Fire Station #7. Keep It Coming! is a low relief recycled aluminum sculpture that stretches the length of the hallway and out the front door of the station, while Ready Seven consists of seven sand cast fire buckets and spools made from recycled aluminum and is used as the signage for the station.

Sand Lake Fire Station #7

These two sculptures are located at Sand Lake Fire Station #7 in Anchorage, Alaska.  The original design for Station #7 was a design idea submitted for Station #1.  The art committee of Station #1 liked the idea of the Bucket Brigade and the old fashioned round bottomed fire buckets but felt it didn’t fit with the modern theme of Station #1.  We resubmitted our idea for the bucket brigade with the addition of “Ready Seven” signage with the thread spools holding up the seven round bottomed buckets.

The thread spools represent  the specialty of Fire Station #7; the sewing repair of firefighter’s turnouts, tool bags and apparatus equipment covers.  The committee for the Sand Lake Fire Station #7 selected our proposal design for sand cast recycled aluminum of buckets and arms.  The sculpture “Ready Seven” is the signage announcing the Fire Station and the round bottom fire bucket brigade begins on the exterior wall and travels inside to the Bucket Brigade “Keep it Coming!” which travels down the interior walls to the dormitory area.  The cast aluminum arms and buckets give a rustic metal counterpoint to the split face block wall.  The molten recycled aluminum was poured directly into the sand and resin molds of the arms of artists, friends and family.
